A lot of you know that we test our parent dogs before we breed them, but some of you may not know what those tests are or why we do them 🤔

One quality that we test in our dogs is how well their hips are! We use both PennHip and OFA to test this. But what is the difference between the two?

PennHip tests can be done sooner and are more objective. PennHip is more sensitive for detecting hip dysplasia and a score is given with each test.

OFA doesn't give out a score but they do rate the dogs' hips as Excellent, Good, Fair, Borderline, Mild, Moderate, or Severe. OFA evaluations are subjective as the dog’s grade may vary between reviewers and may vary over time. OFA also certifies a dog’s hips, elbows, patellas, heart, and eyes.

We take our job as breeders seriously, which is why we test our parent dogs before breeding them to ensure that their genetics are going to make for a strong pairing. We do as much as possible to bring puppies into this world in a responsible and safe way ❤️ If you ever have questions, please don't hesitate to reach out!
